    Description

AUSTRALIA 2005 Proof Set 60th Anniversary of the End of the Second World War
The Royal Australian Mint, Australia's national mint 2005 circulating coin designs and annual year sets commemorate 60 years since the end of the Second World War.
Officially launched at the Australian War Memorial by Chairman of the Memorial Council, Major General Adrian Clunies-Ross, the highlight of the coin series is the 20 cent coin entitled 'Coming Home' which features an image of a young girl greeting her father returning home from the war. The young girl has been identified as Queenslander Jacquie Dowling, after she 'featured' as a child in a photograph from 1945, held by the Australian War Memorial. Jacquie was 'found' after a national search for the child in the photo.
The other commemorative designs produced for the Royal Australian Mint's 2005 Year Set include a coin entitled 'Peace' capturing the joy and spontaneity of one of Australia's most iconic images, the 'dancing man', taken during victory celebrations at the end of the Second World War.
The other coin is entitled 'Remembrance' and is struck on a 50 cent coin capturing the sombre and reflective mood of remembrance and of the enormous cost of all conflicts.
