The Liechtenstein “2009 Europa stamp” was designed by Liechtenstein School of Art by means of a competition held in the preparatory course. The Stamp  printed on hologram foil, depicts a so-called supernova: the term denotes the sudden tremendous brightening of a star caused by an explosion at the end of its life in which the star itself is destroyed. An important detail in the stamp is the tiny white dot at the centre of the supernova, called a “White Dwarf”. “White Dwarf” denotes the incandescent interior of the dying star, a ball of carbon which cools down over several thousand million years. About 10 percent of all the stars in our galaxy are thought to be “White Dwarf"
